How much does a solar installation cost in Switzerland in 2026

It is the first question everyone asks, and the honest answer is a range rather than a figure: the price of a solar installation depends on its size, the mounting, the roof, and what goes with it. Here are the orders of magnitude for 2026, what moves them, and what is actually left to pay.

The price is read per kWp, and it falls with size

The kilowatt-peak, kWp, is the capacity of the installation. It is the unit that lets you compare two offers of different sizes. In 2026, for an installation added to an existing roof, without a battery, the gross price most often sits between 1’500 and 2’500 francs per kWp, and it is degressive: a small 4 kWp installation pays noticeably more per kWp than a 15 kWp one, because the scaffolding, the travel, the inverter and the paperwork cost almost the same in both cases.

For a single-family house, the typical installation is 8 to 12 kWp, or 20 to 30 panels, and the gross budget generally sits between 15’000 and 25’000 francs. Geneva’s Services industriels give a benchmark for an apartment building: 30 kWp for 40’000 to 48’000 francs, or 1’350 to 1’600 francs per kWp. On the offers that went through our comparison service in 2026, the gaps between two installers for the same roof regularly reach 20 to 30%, with comparable equipment.

What pushes the bill up or down

  • The mounting: an installation added on top of the tiles is the cheapest. An integrated installation, which replaces the roof covering, costs more but receives a higher federal bonus and is sometimes required on a listed building.
  • The roof: height, pitch, access, condition of the covering. Complex scaffolding or a roof that needs renovating weigh heavily, and that is the first item the technical visit will pin down.
  • The equipment: the gap between entry-level and premium panels is justified mainly by the warranty and the yield per m² when space is short. The inverter is the component you replace during the installation’s life, its warranty matters.
  • The battery: 5’000 to 12’000 francs more depending on capacity. It raises the self-consumption rate, and its profitability depends on your consumption profile far more than on the feed-in price.
  • The grid connection: meter, bringing the electrical panel up to standard, sometimes a reinforcement requested by the grid operator.

What comes off the gross price

Pronovo’s one-off remuneration pays 360 francs per kWp up to 30 kWp for an added installation, a rate to check on the rate calculator at the time of application. On 10 kWp, around 3’600 francs, paid after commissioning. In some cantons or municipalities, a grant is added, our canton guides (Neuchâtel, Vaud, Geneva, Valais, Fribourg, Jura) say which ones.

Then the tax deduction: on an existing building, the net cost is deducted from taxable income in the year of payment. Depending on your marginal rate, that is 15 to 35% of the amount that comes back the following year as less tax. An example, with clear assumptions: 10 kWp at 20’000 francs gross, 3’600 francs from Pronovo, 16’400 francs net, and a tax saving in the region of 4’000 francs at a marginal rate of 25%. The effective cost falls to around 12’000 francs.

What the installation brings in, on the other side

A 10 kWp installation in French-speaking Switzerland produces around 10’000 kWh per year. What you consume yourself saves you buying electricity, at around 27 centimes per kWh in 2026 on the Swiss average. What you inject is sold at the feed-in price, never less than the legal floor of 6 centimes. Profitability therefore hinges on the share of self-consumption, and that is what you should seek to know before talking about price.

A fair price is not the lowest price, it is the one you can compare.
